Chinese Fortune

Having a Chinese uncle, I’ve always paid close attention to the fortune in my fortune cookies, even though I hate the cookie itself. I was eating at a Chinese buffet with a couple of friends, and at the end, they brought the bill with cookies. My fortune, though not as inspirational as others, read:

An unexpected payment is coming your way!

I’ve heard that if you add “in bed” to the end of any fortune, it makes it more interesting, but I’m not sure how I feel about becoming a prostitute. I may claim a corner one day, but for now, I think I’ll just hope for money. That’s not too much to ask, is it?

I do the same thing with my fortunes, and I always look forward to the cookies. I honestly like the taste of them, but there serves another purpose nowadays. Some of the fortunes have a Chinese word to learn, which I instinctively put in my back pocket so it can join the others in a pile on my desk. My first word was duck :)
